Congratulations to Lynne Watts winner of our BOLDtober/BOLDvember.
Thank you to everyone who entered our 2016 BOLDtober/BOLDVember photo competition which has showcased an eye opening assortment of seniors living boldly, smashing the negative stereotypes about ageing, and proving how old you are has nothing to do with having fun.
These awesome entries prove age is just a number and has to do with happiness and leading a full life. The entries received in our competition revealed seniors living life in spectacular style – ignoring illness and decreasing mobility – showing there is no such thing as “acting your age”.
The winner : Congratulations to Lynne Watts who entered a picture of her Mum Adrenalin junkie, 92, Audrey Kuchel, of Ballarat “90 years young About to set off on an adrenaline zip line in Fiji. 10 platforms up to 100 feet high through the jungle. I was terrified, she had a ball.”
“At 90, she was the oldest woman to complete the thrilling Giant Zipline in Fiji. Thirty metres off the ground, with a steep ascent, the zipline – also known as the death slide – would deter the best of us. After completing the course, Audrey asked if she could do it again!”
What prompted this entry? Audrey has always been adventurous and her adventures continue. A year ago, this adrenalin junkie was the oldest woman to complete the Fijian zipline. Widowed at 66, Audrey has travelled solo throughout the world and is planning a trip to Tasmania in January. She knits singlets for disadvantaged babies in Africa, gardens, loves to read – she is always on a quest to find a book she hasn’t read – and can’t wait to attend the next family reunion.
Why is age just a number? Audrey is the kind of person who would be on the back of a trail bike at the first opportunity and would encourage others to try anything, regardless of age.
Life advice? Stay positive!
Story behind the photo? Audrey, at 90, was the oldest woman to ever sign up for the Fijian adrenaline zipline. At 30 metres off the ground with a steep ascent, the Fijian zipline is no walk in the park! While daughter Lynne, shook with terror at the finish, Audrey said: “That was fun, can we do it again!”
What would you do with the prize money? Spend it on family – there’s 13 great grandchildren – and give the rest to cancer research.
Issues overcome? Audrey was recently diagnosed with leukemia and is undergoing treatment.

BOLDvember is here! And this is fun competition to capture over 70 year olds to be photographed being Bold Not Old!
This is your chance to participate in a fun campaign putting an end to negative stereotypes around ageing and getting older.
This “Get Bold Not Old” initiative is part of an ongoing campaign to show that age is just a number, and that our older community members are larger than life.
Whilst Boldtober has a fun side, its real objective is to shine a spotlight on negativity around ageing.
“There are real issues faced by seniors, from feeling invisible in their community, health and mobility issues, social isolation, financial hardship and elder abuse. In fact, a recent study by Brigham Young University shows that there is an increased risk of death for people who are lonely and socially isolated. Says Feros Care CEO, Jennene Buckley
“You don’t suddenly become invisible when you reach 70, or 80 or 90. Society often forgets that today’s 84 year old nana was yesterday’s rebel, with a life full of wonderful stories, experiences and probably even some secrets,” she said.
#GetBoldNotOld is an exaggerated campaign designed to bring out the cheeky in our older generations.
“Based on the entries we received last year #GetBoldNotOld, I can promise you that seniors are not shrinking violets. Photos ranged from naked cyclists, skydivers and surfers….everything and anything you could imagine.”
And while Feros Care is always fighting ageism, all competition photos must be of someone 70 plus because it’s important to show just how vibrant and fun our older community members are.
Be part of BOLDtober and encourage your family and friends to #GetBoldNotOld.
It’s easy, simply:
